Join the LiDAR Winter School 2026 at the Department of Geomatics, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU)—a comprehensive 5-day intensive program designed to advance your expertise in laser scanning technologies. This course covers the operational theory and data processing of various laser scanning systems, including Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS), Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS), Handheld SLAM LiDAR, UAV Laser Scanner, and Bathymetric LiDAR.
A whole day outing will take place in Tainan (outside NCKU campus) to gain hands-on experience with TLS, handheld SLAM LiDAR, and Mobile SLAM LiDAR systems. Data processing procedures will be introduced in a computer room of Department of Geomatics. Participants are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own high-end laptop (with high-speed CPU, ample RAM, and/or independent GPU).
Beyond the academic curriculum, participants will enjoy networking opportunities through organized social events, including a welcome ice-breaking dinner and a traditional hot-pot dinner. Both dinners are complimentary and provide excellent opportunities for networking and cultural exchange. All lunches and refreshments are also provided throughout the course duration.
We welcome graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career professionals, and industry practitioners who are interested in laser scanning technologies. We believe that the experience from this winter school will enhance your knowledge, technical skills and open new opportunities in the geospatial industries.
In the course, participants will collaborate on team projects designed to deepen their understanding of LiDAR technologies. We strongly encourage participants to bring their own datasets and research challenges, enabling you to develop practical solutions for your specific applications while learning from diverse perspectives and approaches.
